More fun with water

In the interest of being corrected the two oldest boys let me know they want to be involved in the blogging world as well. As such I start tonight with a story on D, the oldest. This weekend mom is out of town with a group from her ballet studio. Knowing that is was a boys weekend I asked them what they wanted to do, now picture in your mind what you would expect the typical response would be from a group of boys being given the opportunity to do ANYTHING....as your mind ponders this if you are like me I was thinking bowling, movie, grandma's house, dinosaur museum etc.. However, the response I actually received was "I would like to go to the House of the Lord!!!!' He is definitely a spiritual giant. With that, we headed off the the new Draper Temple where they could see what it looks like before it is dedicated, it is absolutely stunning inside!! That explains the picture in their new church clothes. Cute aren't they:)

Tonight we arrived home late and I requested our three boys make sure that the dog has food and water. Shortly, after they all head downstairs to play video games. Thinking all is well I head upstairs to put some items in our laundry room. As I enter the laundry I notice the floor is wet, then as I look to the bathroom I notice the floor is really wet. Upon further examination I find that the bench where we put our shoes on is drenched as well. I head downstairs to begin my interrogation of the boys to see what may has caused this interesting situation. Quickly the two older boys go into denial mode and I look at T and ask if he knows what happened. With total pride he grins and yells "YEP!!!" Knowing he can't articulate the fine details I am looking for I ask him to show me what happened. He takes me upstairs and into the garage and proudly shows me that the dogs water dish, which holds more than a gallon of water, is completely empty.

I'm hungry

Lesson 4-Feed me. Today's lesson is to always feed your two year old when he is hungry. After we left him alone in the kitchen for a minute he came down the stairs complaining that his hand hurt. My wife quickly came to his rescue and we headed upstairs to see what may have happened. It turns out he wanted and orange and had taken it upon himself to peel it. We found an orange, with a steak knife through it resting on his table waiting for someone to finish peeling it....You guessed it, while most of the knives were already out of reach so are the steak knives now.

Lesson 5-Water. We live in a very cold climate. As such our two year old tends to play in the garage in the winter to stay somewhat warm. After checking on him multiple times having fun with the dog he came inside looking quite smug. As any parent knows that is a sign to be worried, very worried. I ran out to the garage to find that he had done our family the service of providing water for the dog. In fact, the water was still running and had flooded one side of the garage. Our dog had never been that well taken care of. Best part, he actually had filled the water dish to the brim and there was enough water running out of the garage that the floor has never been so clean!!

Lesson Number 1

This is in response to my dear mother-in-law who suggested I capture the memories of tending our children, specifically the hi jinx of two year old while I am at home.

Besides having an extreme understanding of what my wife has gone through working and taking care of most of the children management I am learning that there are many, more subtle lessons in life you can learn from a two year old.

Lesson 1. Cereal sometimes tastes better after you spread it evenly all over the floor (no I did not actually taste it) Yesterday, after he found a box of cereal he someone managed to spread it pall over the basement floor, even into the far reaches of the couch. I am sure that the clean up was not as fun for him as the spreading. As you can see he was able to enlist his brothers in the clean up effort.

Lesson 2. Not everything flushes. Later that day I heard repeated flushes coming form the bathroom by my office. As I entered the bathroom he was hunched over the toilet with both arms actively engaged in trying to assist something flush. As I approached he had a complete box of baggies that he could not understand why the would not flush.

Lesson 3. Chocolate is king. Upon discovering his brother's beloved chocolate bar he just had to have some. I thought putting it on the fridge would solve the problem. Little did I realize he had the answer. I came back after hearing the sounds of chairs moving across the kitchen floor. As I entered the kitchen he had arranged every chair in a semi circle around the fridge and he was walking around on them trying to find which one would take him to the promised land (top of the fridge) I will do better and add pictures in the future.
